Eustace's Trip Across America

When riding horses around Eustace realized that people responded much differently to him on a horse rather than just him. They were kinder to him. Even people who were said to be violent mean and malicious showed friendliness and hospitality. So, this is part of the reason why he chose to ride a horse across America. That and he wanted to learn how much he, his brother and Susan were capable of. Eustace wanted to test not only his groups' limitations but even the horses as well.
An event that i found significant was when Eustace bought maybe one of the most stubborn mules living. The mule would sometimes want to kill Eustace. For example, when Eustace would touch his ears, belly or his belly the mule would flip out and try to kill Eustace. Instead of backing away Eestace found this to be a challenge, as he does everything he encounters. When the mule first acted up, he showed the mule his place in the world. Eustace fought with the mule. He punched and yelled at the animal. He even made a point to touch all the areas on the animal that angered it. With this intense determination Eustace was able to tame it. This showed me just how far Eusatce is willing to go in order to accomplish something.

Jim, I agree with your post. Eustace was trying to accomplish goals he had set for this journey. I liked how you wrote about Peter Pan the Mule. That mule was one hell of a crazy animal. I was suprised about all the things that Eustace did to the Mule, like bite his ears, and pick him up and yell into his hoofs. Anyhow good post lockhart.
