William Leaves Mr. Sands
William always dreamed of being able to own himself in the free states. Mr. Sands didn't treat William as a slave, more like a friend. They showed respect for each other. But, William would rather be free in the North than be a slave with a lot of benefits in the South. His actions were justified. It would be disgraceful, and shocking to me, if someone was to say that a slave was being rude by leaving his master, who was kind, and stay in the free states. While it was justified, there were benefits that William could've had by staying with Mr. Sands. William wouldn't have to worry about being fed or housing. Mr. Sands took care of that. He would also be with his family and others that cared about him. But, in the end, a slave's desire for freedom outweighs such benefits.
